This weeks image was captured at a lemur rehabilitation center a few hours drive east of Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo. Although we spent quite a bit of time lemur spotting in many of Madagascar’s national parks. The close proximity to these animals in the rehabilitation center made for the best photographs.
The lemur is a quiet and curious mammal, with the total number of species somewhere around 100. During our time in the country we spotted a vast number of these species, including some of the more rare and endangered ones. The Sifika lemur was one of my most favorite, with their color and markings being quite different to may other species.
I am by no means a professional photographer, but I believe some of my images are worthy of sale. Are these wonderful animals an endangered specie in Madagascar?
… sorry didn’t read the complete post. So, some of them are endangered and others are not?
Hey Ivy, Thats all right, glad you took the time to comment. Some of the Lemurs are quite common, whilst others are very rare with a few on the endangered list. The Sifika is one species that is down in numbers. The animals are a national icon of Madagascar, and there seemed to be quite allot of conservation effort going into protecting them. I just hope it’s not to late though.
Sorry I don’t want to be too girly but awwwwwwwwwwww!!
Hey Andi, Yeah, they were kind a cute. The Sifika was one of the more beautiful Lemur of the over 100 species in Madagascar.
