Image of the Week: Cambodia – The Cowboy of Lake Tonle Sap

This weeks image is another captured during my travels to Cambodia back in 2006. Whilst getting a bit of a tour of the floating village area of Lake Tonle Sap. I was happily snapping away, and captured many great shots within that afternoon. I managed to get a quick shot of this fisherman returning from his mornings work.

By the look on his face, they obviously weren’t biting on that particular day. Although I do remember a great flock of birds following him in, so he must have caught something. Lake Tonle Sap is a short Tuk Tuk / Moto ride from the tourist Mecca of Siem Reap, and well worth the effort of coming down for an early morning or late afternoon cruise on the lake.

  1. What a great capture, would love to know his story!

    • Jason says:

Hey Andi, Yes no doubt he’d have his share of stories to tell. I loved the cowboy hat, and that’s what really caught my eye.

  2. I went to Tonle Sap last month and the lifestyle of the people living in the Floating Village truly amazed me

    • Jason says:

Hey Micamyx, Yes many of the people of this village are no doubt doing it quite tough, but it was quite a sight to see how people lived on the water. It must be quite weird for a child that is born into this environment. For them to then set foot on dry land, and onto something we take as being normal. Thanks for your comment…

  3. Leigh says:

Love the colours & expression you’ve captured in this shot.

    • Jason says:

Hey Leigh, The expression was no doubt regarding him returning with more than likely an empty catch, and not being to happy with me taking his photo. You do get this from time to time, but as you point out the colors look great. I also love the cowboy hat.
