Mount Hotham - Australia, It's Not All Beaches and Sunshine

Image of The Week: Australia – It’s Not All Beaches and Sunshine

This weeks image was captured during a drive up to Mt Hotham in the Victoria Alps. The state of Victoria is made famous by it’s ‘Great Ocean Road‘ tourist drive, that showcases some of Australia’s best wild and open coastline.

This image was taken on the other great road of my home state. The ‘Great Alpine Road‘ leading up to Mt Hotham is living proof that Australia is not always beaches and sunshine, as many would believe.

I am by no means a professional photographer, but I believe some of my images are worthy of sale. Traveling the world is an expensive hobby, so If you would like to licence, or purchase a print of this image (or any others in my image of the week series). Then please check out my Color or Black and White image galleries, where you can select an image and be presented with a series of options through the ‘FotoMoto’ service.

The image displayed above, is a reduced and highly compressed JPEG. All licensed images are supplied in full high resolution TIFF format, without watermarks. All prints are also created from these high resolution image files, without watermarks.

Oh God I just shivered looking at this photo.

    • Jason says:

Hey Erica, It certainly was a cold winter in Melbourne that year, and I made many runs up to Mt Hotham to ski. The temperature only gets down to about -5, so its nothing like what it gets to in the Rockies, Alps or other great mountain ranges of the world, but it was cold enough.

  2. Wow in Australia!?! Who would have thought!

    • Jason says:

Hey Andi, Yeah my little island country sometimes gets a little stero typed. I thought I might share some other aspects of my home state of Victoria that the tourist brouchers don’t generally point out.

Great photo mate. I’m still yet to head to the Australian ski fields, despite living here all of my life. I’ll have to get there one of these days. Cheers

    • Jason says:

Hey Dean, Being Victorian I’m a keen skier and try to make the most of our winter months. Mt Hotham is my pick of the Aussie Ski resorts and for any travellers that make it there. The drive in to the resort during winter is one of Australia’s most picturesque roads.
